Ayurveda
Ayurveda is the time tested traditional system of medicine of India. The term 'Ayurveda' meaning 'the knowledge of life' comprises of two Sanskrit words viz 'Ayu' meaning 'Life' and 'Veda' meaning 'Knowledge' or 'Science'.
Yoga & Naruropathy
The word 'Yoga' comes from the Sanskrit word 'yuj' which means 'to unite or integrates'. Yoga is about the union of a person's own conciousness and the universal consciousness. Natureopathy is a cost effective drugless, non-invasive therapy involving the use of natural materials for health care and healthy living.
Unani
Unani System of medicine is a comprehensive medical system, which provides preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health care. The system is holistic in nature and takes into account the whole personality of an individual rather than taking a reductionist approach townards disease.
Siddha
The Siddha system is ancient system of medicine in India. The word 'Siddha' is derived from the root word 'Citti" meaning attainement of perfection, eternal bliss and accomplishment.
Sowa Rigpa
Sowa-Rigpa” is the traditional medicine of many parts of the Himalayan region used mainly by the Tribal and bhot people. Sowa-Rigpa(Bodh-Kyi) means 'science of healing' and the practitioners of this medicine are known as Amchi.
Homeopathy
'Homoeopathy' was introduced as a scientific system of drug therapeutics by a German Physician, Dr. Christian Frederick Samuel Hahnemann in 1805. The principle of Homoeopathy is Similia Similibus Curentur i.e. let likes be trated by likes.

The Ministry of Ayush was formed on the 9th of November 2014 with a vision of reviving the profound knowledge of our ancient systems of medicine and ensuring the optimal development and propagation of the Ayush systems of healthcare. Earlier, the Department of Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy (ISM&H) formed in 1995, was responsible for the development of these systems. It was then renamed as the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (Ayush) in November 2003 with focused attention towards education and research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy.
Shri Sarbananda Sonowal Union Cabinet Minister, Ministry of Ayush
Late Shri Jibeswar Sonowal, a BJP member, had a prominent political career in Assam, serving as an MLA and Lok Sabha member. He held ministerial positions, became Chief Minister in 2016, and later a Union Cabinet Minister overseeing Ayush and Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. He was born in Mulukgaon, Assam, on October 31, 1962, held LLB and B.C.J degrees, and remained unmarried.
Homoeopathy as a Career.
A career in complementary and traditional systems of medicines is much in demand today. All across the country, many prestigious colleges of Homoeopathy, are run by the Ministry of Ayush and by the State governments or self-financed institutions. These impart recognised and formalised educational courses, training, and teaching in various courses of Homoeopathy. There is also a dedicated autonomous research organization running a Postgraduate course.
Traditional Food Recipes from Ayush Systems.
India has a rich tradition of diverse food practices in different parts of the Country. Most of us are unaware of the treasure trove of culinary delights that has been passed down to us by our own ancestors. This compilation of recipes is a broad exploration into traditional systems of eating for health and nourishment, with added interpretation to place it in the context of our own time. It contains indicative general guidelines and therefore the users of the book may make necessary modifications in the recipes as per their own choice and availability of the ingredients in their region.

Ayush Oushadhi gunvatha evum authpadan
Regulation of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathic (ASU&H) medicines in India, are governed under the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the Rules made thereunder. Conservation development and Sustainable management of medicinal plants
The Ministry of Ayush has established a National Medicinal Plant Board to promote development and cultivation of medicinal plants and to harmonise the development activities between several ministries/departments/organisations. The board has been implementing various schemes and policies for the MSMEs to grow, preserve and market the medicinal plants. Central Sector Scheme for Conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants is one such scheme launched by NMPB to focus on cultivation and protection of medicinal plants.

National Ayush Mission(NAM)
Ministry of Ayush is implementing the Centrally Sponsered Scheme of Nationl Ayush Mission ( NAM ) through States/UTs for providing better access to Ayush services by increasing in number of Ayush Hospital andDispensaries, upgradation of Ayush hospitals/dispensaries, operationalizationof Ayush Health and Wellness Centres by upgrading existing Ayush dispensaries and Sub Health Centres to provide comprehensive primary healthcare at grassroots level with focus on Ayush systems of medicine,mainstreaming of Ayush through co-location of Ayush facilities at PrimaryHealth Centres (PHCs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) & District Hospital(DHs), ensure availability of Ayush drugs and trained manpower and Ayush Public Health programmes. NAM also aims at the improvement in quality of Ayush education through upgrading existing Ayush Educational Institutions and establishment of new Ayush Colleges in the States where availability of Ayush teaching institutions is inadequate in Government Sector.
